Are you tired of articles that say you should sleep when you’re anxious? It’s like telling someone who is anxious to go to sleep and then tell them to go swim in the sea. Sleep is the most effective way to relieve anxiety. Relaxation is necessary before sleep. Relaxation can be achieved in many ways, but the three main ones are exercise, medication and psychological.
Medication
It is not surprising that drugs can help you relax. Most of the time, you will focus on one problem until it becomes impossible to find mental rest. You may experience an emotional reaction that is like the tide of the ocean. This can be a sign that you suffer from anxiety or depression. Find something that will distract you from the problem if it is recurring. Be aware, however, that herbal relaxants can make you physically tired even though your mind remains active.
Exertion
You can exhaust yourself. You will find it difficult to remain anxious once your body is physically exhausted. Aim for a feeling similar to runner’shigh. It usually happens after you have hit the second wall. Exercise until you feel too tired to be anxious or so tired you need to go to bed. After exercising, avoid taking a bath because you may experience anxiety again. Take a shower and dry yourself off quickly. Then, you can fall asleep in bed or on the sofa.
Psychological
You can change your way of thinking in many ways, such as by viewing your anxiety like a ball full of problems that you push into the distance. Decide when you will be anxious. Tell yourself that you are safe in bed. This is a place where anxiety and worries are not allowed.
You can spend hours imagining the scenarios that fit your movie. You may have difficulty sleeping at first and it takes some practice, but after a while you will be able to spend hours happily imagining the scene from the movie that you just watched. This won’t make you sleep better, but it will reduce your anxiety.
Try “active imagination”, where you imagine yourself in a hypothetical scenario and discuss the problem with those present. Did you see the meetings that they had in Star Trek Voyager where everyone gathered together to discuss a problem? Imagine the same thing and imagine what the characters might say to you about your worry. The characters will take on a new life after a while and can help you to see a different perspective. Star Trek Voyager or Next Generation is great for active imagination, because you can get many different ideas from the cast.
It is easy to exaggerate anxiety because it can make you anxious. It is possible to overcome this problem. First, you must recognize the problem. Then, deal with it as calmly as possible.
